Go Kart Components

Go karts are a fun vehicle to use, no matter what age you are. However, your go kart is going to require a number of different components in order to work correctly. A motor, tires, frame, steering system, and seat are essential components. The driver and the personal gear he or she will need is also a component that needs to be considered when building or buying go kart components. The right components will protect the driver and make the go kart experience a fun and safe one.

First, the skeletal frame must be carefully selected for practicality and for safety. A roll cage should be installed or come with the frame for maximum safety. You should also consider a roll harness on the go kart for protecting the driver. Although some models do not include these, they are excellent choices and have been repeatedly shown to protect individuals against accidents when the go kart rolls. Although these additions do cost more, medical bills are far more costly and should be weighed against every decision you make regarding your go kart components.

The tires and steering system should be carefully chosen in order to maximize control over the vehicle and prevent sliding or locking of the steering. In most instances, a recycled tractor steering wheel is perfect for a go kart. However, if you do use a recycled steering wheel, be absolutely certain it is properly attached otherwise the result may be a loss of control which ends in injury. Tires need to be new and the right type for the surface the driver will be driving on. Rugged tires will not be enjoyable to use on blacktop, but are necessary in a field where there is dirt and grass.

Although most motors from lawnmowers will provide you with more than enough power, some individuals prefer building an engine from scratch or to purchase an engine that is more powerful. It is important to carefully consider any engine, as too much power can result in the go kart being flipped during the wrong moment. If you do decide to purchase or build a more powerful engine, be certain the driver understands the implications and is properly educated in how to handle the go kart. No child should ever be given an engine that is more powerful than a lawnmower engine as they will be unable to properly handle using the go kart.

When choosing your go kart components, always be aware of what you need and how much it will cost you. Choosing wisely can help protect the driver plus protect your investment from possible damage. Go karts are not race cars, and therefore do not need large and powerful motors which take the drivers at top speeds. In addition, be sure you invest in the right protective gear to help protect the driver. While they are fun vehicles, safety must always come first in order to protect the driver from improperly chosen go kart components.
