When researching or purchasing condoms it’s extremely important to make sure that you know the terms that are associated with them. This is the best way to make sure that you know exactly what you are dealing with. If you do not know the terms that are used for condoms, you will not be able to properly research them thus not be able to find which one is most suitable for you. This is the reason that we have put together a glossary of all the important terms that you should familiarize yourself with before researching condoms and other sexual health care products.

Birth Control: Birth control can refer to many different things so it is important to make sure you clearly define it. The main definition as used by condom companies is anything that is effective at preventing pregnancy. However there are also many other names that are used for birth control by these companies. Some of these other terms include pregnancy prevention, contraception, and fertility control.

Labia: This refers to the lips, either around the mouth or the female genitalia.

Lubricant: An oily substance that is often found in condoms. There are also vaginal lubricants that are sold by many different condom companies.

Membrane: a very thin layer that covers a surface of some sort. This term is used by many condom companies and is one that you will want to know.

Sexually Transmitted Disease: This refers to any disease that can be contracted through sexual contact. This is perhaps the most important to term to familiarize yourself with as this is the number one concern for people that are utilizing condoms.

Sperm: Sperm is the sex cell of the male.

Male Condom: The male condom is a latex sheath that is utilized by males to place over an erect penis before penetration during intercourse. The male condom prevents pregnancy by blocking sperm.

It’s extremely important to make sure that you are completely aware of the terms that are used to describe different aspects of condoms and their prevention efforts. This is really the only way that you will be able to thoroughly research a product and make sure you are completely safe with your decision. It is also important to know these terms in order to understand what type of protection a particular product will provide. Lastly, you should familiarize yourself with these types of terms for your safety when trying to follow the instructions of a certain product. Once you have familiarized yourself with these terms, you will than be able to properly research different types of condoms and figure exactly which are best for you. It will also allow you to understand exactly what benefits which products have. It is also important to make sure that you are aware of the language that is used by condom companies in order to understand the instructions that are given to you for the condoms.
