Everyone needs a vacation every now and then; they are great for helping to reduce stress. If you are in the process of an exercise regimen then heading off for a vacation can put a damper in exercise routine. Even some of the most die-hard exercisers find it difficult to stick with a workout program when away from home. Plenty leave for vacation with the intentions of keeping on top of their routine but for some reason, for many, it never becomes a reality.
You can still fit in exercise time when away from home but you have to be realistic, it is likely that your workout won’t seem normal and may not even be as intense as it is at home but it’s alright, something is better than nothing. Plan ahead and when you know where you are going find out what type of workout facilities your accommodations will have or if there is a nearby park where you can do some walking or jogging. See what’s available in terms of gyms. If you are staying at a hotel then they are likely to have a workout room but if they don’t then usually a nearby fitness center will be happy to offer day passes for a minimal fee.
If your travel plans include being somewhere where you don’t feel comfortable engaging in a exercise routine, for example if you are away at your aunt’s house for the holidays, simply pack a resistance band in your suitcase as it takes up really no room and you can do some exercises in your room, without bothering anyone that will workout your entire upper and lower body. Don’t deprive yourself of all food luxuries. You can enjoy some special meals without going overboard. Find unique, fun ways to exercise instead of doing the same routine you do when you are at home. Try biking, hiking, a pedal boat excursion, water-skiing, beach volleyball, etc. Effective workouts aren’t limited to walking, jogging and fitness machines.
If you think that you will need to engage in a workout while you are traveling that is more concealed then gives it a couple practice runs at home first just so you don’t get frustrated. Frustration can lead to making excuses to skip the workout. If you plan to be doing your traveling by car then it is always a good idea to pack a small cooler with some healthy snacks and beverages. Not only will this eliminate the need to indulge in fast food when you get hungry but it will also make you feel more like you have some routine going on.
Sometimes being on vacation or traveling opens up even more opportunities for enjoying exercise. Take full advantage of any water sports or swimming that might be available to you. Also make sure that you pack the appropriate clothing to exercise in depending on the type of climate that you will be traveling to. Traveling doesn’t have to mean that you have to go off of your routine.
