Chartbuster Karaoke began operations in 1989. It was founded by a musician, whose career started in 1963. Norbert Stovall began his career playing a guitar in some bands around West Virginia. From his beginnings opening a studio, he has taken his music career into other areas than just performing. He moved to Nashville in 1976 where he opened another studio & produced music for various key recording labels including: ABC, MCA, United Artists, and Warner Brothers.
One more move in 1978 got him to Knoxville, TN where he opened another studio. There he was met Earl Glick who had another studio at the time. Ed had some visions in the then up and coming Karaoke craze. Norbert then started recording at his Big Mama Recording Studios these items to be known as Karaoke tracks. He has often been called “The Pioneer of American Karaoke”, although that title is hard to trace & may be claimed possibly by a few others. At least he was one of the first to have a studio that got involved with Karaoke.
After almost ten years doing this recording in his studio, Norm created the Chartbuster Karaoke. His one goal was to take original tracks released by major labels and produce the highest quality tracks that sounded as much as possible like them. Chartbuster is now considered one of the largest producers of titles, having over 10,000 in an in-house library.
Now Chartbuster produces from 50 to 100 songs a month to add to that library. They are also involved in moving the Karaoke industry forward for a new generation. Karaoke has evolved into some other formats & even spun into TV shows, contests that have become national in scope, tours that take Karaoke events out around the country, and broadcasted events. Chartbuster Karaoke is also involved in the interactive concept named after his studio known as “Big Mama’s Karaoke Café”.
Chartbuster Karaoke has been known in the industry for its support. It has an array of customers to support too. They have products that meet the needs of individual consumers who want to buy their CDs and DVDs, KJs (Karaoke Jockeys), dealers & individual buyers. Their reputation is great and seems to be based on their 100% replacement guarantee for any of their Karaoke discs or DVDs.
They consider the whole family their target market and produce content for all age ranges. They have also focused on broadening the reach & scope of the Karaoke industry by focusing on the home market as well. Their family-friendly approach to content and distribution has helped to make Karaoke into a more popular activity. The removal of explicit material from their Karaoke inventory has made their products approachable to meet the needs of families to offer good clean fun within the family. Just like pool or billiards had that bar & nightclub focus for such a long time & now can be found in family-friendly environments, karaoke as an industry has seen that light too. Chartbuster Karaoke was at the forefront of that movement.
