Buying a Go-Kart

Buying a go kart is not tricky even if you have no prior experience with go karts. Often, the individuals who are selling them do have prior experience at using them and can recommend different possibilities based on what you would like the go kart for. It might be best you go to the location and leave your wallet or purse behind at first to do research and shop around.

When buying a go kart, be aware that many of them are far from inexpensive, and you should be prepared to spend at least a couple hundred dollars. In addition, it is important you invest in a good helmet for the individual who will be driving it. Gloves and long protective clothing is also a good idea in order to protect the driver from a possible roll over. If the driver has any pertinent medical information, you may wish to write this information down and stick it inside a waterproof tube to be placed somewhere in the clothing. Should anything happen, this will allow the medics to be familiar with any conditions the driver should have and to be able to treat him or her accordingly.

In addition, you should look at the risks involved with go karts before you consider buying one. Although a child’s initial impression may be they are “quite cool”, nonetheless they are not toys and should never be treated as one. Purchase a go kart with a roll cage and a roll safety harness if it is available, as this will help protect the driver in the event an accident does occur. Make sure the driver is familiar with all aspects of the go kart before allowing him or her to begin using it. Always carefully monitor any child during use and never leave him or her alone at any time until they are of sufficient age and experience.

You may wish to do some research online concerning go karts as there is a wealth of information you will be able to find on them. You can find plans, comments from parents and current and previous drivers, safety concerns, suggestions on where you can buy them new or used, and how to properly care for them. Maintaining a go kart properly is very important in order to protect the driver as much as possible. If you have no previous experience with motors, you may wish to find a mechanic in your area who can assist you, or buy several books on proper maintenance.

Buying a go kart may be confusing without previous experience, but it can be a lot of fun, especially if you go with your child to check them out. However, be sure you are not swayed by what your child wants and instead get what is recommended, and most importantly, what is safe. It may be best to start out with a small model that is easy to use and then to work up to a new model after the driver gains experience.
