When you first think of Broadway Karaoke you most likely will think about musicals and how the songs produced for them have been turned into the content for a Karaoke CD or DVD.
That is a very correct way to think about it for sure. There are a couple of twists on the topic of Karaoke & how its seen around Broadway.
Since a lot of Broadway is about music it makes sense to see how Karaoke can be adapted to Broadway music itself.
One special event that attempts to get kids & families to Broadway get involved with Broadway and even recruits kids to be actors who might eventually reach their dreams on Broadway is a yearly event that this year used Broadway Karaoke to spur interest like this.
The event was Kids’ Night on Broadway where the specific age range of 6 to 18 was targeted. It has been proven by research and studies that when young kids are brought to a Broadway theatre performance they tend to become theatergoers in the future themselves.
This event did get them to be able to see a Broadway performance but also included a Festival component that had activities that made the whole Broadway experience more than just watching others perform.
Some of the activities were targeted at letting the kids and their families see how live theater is created by actually working with the cast and crew of shows that are offered up as a part of the experiences they can choose from during the event.
The activities to choose from include: special theatrical makeup stations, Broadway dance lessons, karaoke, and many other unique theatre activities.
As a part of the event too the kids will have a chance to sing some Broadway Karaoke so that they get in the swing of what it feels like to sing in a Broadway musical. They will also be able to win some prizes for their singing activities too.
In this approach, Broadway Karaoke is being used to recruit kids to becoming actors through giving them the opportunity to perform via the Karaoke process & experience. After all, when we sing in a Karaoke activity, no matter what the genre of music we choose to sing, we are in fact becoming actors at some level. In the Broadway Karaoke scenario the kids are also getting to feel like they are ON Broadway performing real-time and they get to decide if its for them at some level without going through all the steps to actually perform on Broadway. Then if its for them & they like it they can pursue other activities that move their career along.
Who knows, maybe there’ll be a talent scout there too & they will get their break right away, but more than likely they will confirm their interest or at least see that they want to learn more about Broadway, become an actor in their school theatre or learn more about something they enjoyed one year on Broadway.
