When it comes to personal computers, there are two basic types of computers that people choose from. One type is the IBM PC. Microsoft is the leading program with Microsoft Windows that has various operating systems which include XP, VISTA and Windows 98, which many users simply don’t want to upgrade from yet.
If you are familiar with only one type of system, there is really no comparison between an Apple computer and an IBM PC. These systems are very different in how they operate, how they save files and even the type of mouse they use.
Many people swear by Windows and are comfortable with the manner in which Microsoft operates the system they are using. If you are familiar with the IBM PC environment, you know what to expect and can maneuver your way through various programs with ease. Many programs and software that you use are also respective of the IBM PC environment and work only with that type of system.
Apple holds the same type of territorial considerations over the operating system that runs Mac computers and the programs and software that it uses. Apple is reported to be so secretive over the components and programs that they place in their computers that black screens are installed in certain areas when new systems are made so that even some Apple employees are not allowed to see how these new machines are manufactured.
Both Apple and Microsoft have a reputation for making their systems and certain programs non-compatible with other systems. For example, when it comes to music and players, Microsoft systems are very demanding for using the factory installed media player. Similarly, Apple’s iTunes allows for purchase of music but dictates where you can and cannot play the music and store the files.
If you are unfamiliar with both systems and trying to decide whether an Apple or IBM PC will be best for you, give ample to consideration to what you believe you need to use the system for and what programs you will need. Although many say Apple is best, more programs are IBM PC compatible than with Apple.
If you are familiar with one system or the other, it may be best to go with the system that you know the most about. If you are looking to learn about one system or the other, there are options to take courses to teach the basics of one or the other or even both. Many users who are familiar with both systems suggest that Apple is more challenging but this may be a matter of opinion.
For graphics and other applications that are similar, it is said that Mac is the final word and foremost authority for creating unmatched quality. For other programs such as word processing and spreadsheets, Microsoft is well known as the world’s leading authority.
The final say on Apple versus IBM PC boils down to what you choose.
