Google’s newest foray into video premiered Saturday night: YouTube Live. Reaction to the event has been mixed. Either way it represents a shift in the way that Google has positioned itself thus far in the online video industry. So were you one of the reported 700,000 simultaneous viewers Saturday night? If not (and maybe even if you were), you may be at a loss as to what the YouTube Live show was all about. If so, then consider it a type of live “cream of the crop” from YouTube’s most popular videographers over the years. We’ve gathered a few of the best moments to share with you here, so you wouldn’t miss out.
First up is DJ Mike Relm doing a mix of some favorite YouTube stuff. Next is the Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters with Leonardo 2.0, and around 20k paintballs. Last but not least is Katy Perry performing her latest single hit “Hot N Cold”, decidedly very hot!
Overall I think the event was a success at bringing together a number of YouTube’s most famous personalities. Production costs and data streaming costs considered, I’m guessing that the event’s sponsors more than covered the cost. It will be interesting to see where Google takes this channel going forward.
