For the past decade and a half, the Nintendo game system has seen a steady decline in sales. Nintendo’s troubles began when Sony release the PSP series. Nintendo has never recovered their former spot as gaming giants.
Nintendo released the N64 which was the last system to use a cartridge. It was poorly times and a last ditch effort to compete in the “64 bit Arena”. Anything above 32 bit actually goes virtually un-noticed by the viewer and the system of rating by the “bit” standards has become somewhat dated.
Holding steady to the number 3 position in gaming systems, Nintendo has found a comfortable spot with handheld gaming platforms. Nintendo has released DS, Gameboy, and Advance, with DS being the noted leader among the three.
After decades of children growing up in the development of the gaming systems, gamers have taken normal childhood play time into a new realm. Where children used to play together, outside, they now are raised in the gaming arena. It is a sign of the times and we now have 2nd and 3rd Generation Gamers. Nintendo has managed to keep up with the age variation of its consumers, satisfying both the need for the favorites among the older, and the new among the younger.
Much like “Football Widows”, we now have what are called “Video Game Widows”. Although, to be fair, there appear to be a fair amount of Video Game Widowers as well!
Spanning the decades, Nintendo has released the following (partial) list of games:
Wild Gunmen; Radar Scope; Donkey Kong; Mario Bros; Vs Tennis, Vs Pinball; Killer Instinct; Cruis’n Exotica; and Pokemon Battrio.
Nintendo remains competitive in the world of gaming and continues to release games to please its multi-generational consumers. Safely mixing Adult games with the tamer games aimed toward the younger set, and the nostalgic. There are literally hundreds of titles from which to choose, as the span of Nintendo users increases. Games once played by the Parent’s and now, Grandparent’s of younger gamers introduce the “oldies”, while the youngest set of gamers try the newest releases of the games.
It doesn’t appear that the appeal for gaming is going to wane any time soon, and Nintendo tries to keep up with the times. Nintendo is still very much a player in the world of gaming. Struggling to regain its glory days, they still endeavor to satisfy the taste of gamers young and old.
