Thanks to the continued advancements and developments of the handheld, there are many styles, types, and varieties of handhelds to choose from. If you are planning to start shopping for a handheld for yourself, make sure that you take the time to have a list of the features and functions that you need. Once you start your search, you may be surprised to find how many different styles, colors and types of handhelds are on the market. Don’t let the bells and whistles sidetrack you from your goal, however, which is to find a handheld that’s just right for you. Colors and fancy covers don’t add any to the effectiveness of the functions.

If you are looking for just a personal organizer, you may want to consider purchasing an older model handheld as they are more likely to be suited to your needs. Newer model handhelds are far more than just personal organizers. Modern handhelds are actually functional just like pocket-sized computer. So if you’ve been using your laptop for browsing websites, your cell phone for texting and sending messages, your new handheld can combine all of the features into a sleek, stylish design that may even come with a comfortable touch screen.

Having all the latest bells and whistles isn’t for everyone, so if you want something more basic and your Internet search isn’t exact, try visiting one of your local department stores like Best Buy or Circuit City, tell the salesperson exactly what you’re looking for and take it from there.

One thing to remember about handhelds is that although they pack the punch of a pc into those small compartments that fit into your hands, the largest screen on handhelds is about four inches, which is very small to have to look at for any length of time. Also consider that newer handhelds have mobile phone technology capabilities as well and if you’re going to be using your handheld as your phone, invest in a suitable cover for the glass screen.

At the department store you can also inquire if there are any activated models to demonstrate some of the feature. There may not be but there may be a salesperson that actually has one in their possession. If the features seem too complicated at a glance, don’t be too daunted or drawn back. There are services like Geek Squad that can come to your home after your purchase and show you how to use it for a fee.

Once you’ve found the right handheld for you, consider investing in the extended warranty that will most likely cover your handheld in case it’s stolen or for any reason, quits working or malfunctions. Without the extended warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty may only cover defective workmanship for up to a year, which will leave you with a broken handheld and no coverage to get it fixed.

Before you make your purchase, also inquire about in-store coupons, rebates, a trial subscription or anything else that might enhance your buying power.
