There are many Voice over Internet (VOIP) services and providers of those services on the market today. It is important understand a few basic things before you begin your search and as you conduct your search for the right VOIP for your home or business.
First, there is ease of use. This is typically a simple process of set but how simple is the system to use afterwards. Do you have to open a web browser to listen to your voice messages? Can you check your voice messages from your cell phone when you are away from home? What about changing the greeting or inserting a voice memo from a remote location? These options may or may not be of need to you but it is important when selecting your VOIP services to ensure that they are not extremely complicated, tedious or cumbersome to use.
Next, find out about what service and support will be available to you. What happens if your VOIP is down but not your Internet? How long is replacement turnaround time if your hardware breaks or is struck by an unexpected power surge? Is replacement equipment provided as a part of a warranty or will you be out of pocket for expenses in addition to your VOIP and Internet bill? Is your equipment replaceable with local generic equipment? These are all questions you need to know the answers to and be sure that the answers suit you needs before you commit to a contact or legal agreement to paying for the service for a specified amount of time. There’s no longer contract to keep than the one that doesn’t serve you while you are still paying for it.
Price is another factor to figure in. What price are you willing to pay? Are you sure it’s the best price for the product and services? What does that price include and are there allowances to upgrade your price for better services? What about discounts if you make referrals? There may be a whole world of questions related to price that come to mind once you start thinking about what you want and how much you want to pay for it. Shop around for the best price for the services you’re looking for. Don’t stop with a good price just because it’s low if it isn’t exactly what you want.
Finally, what features do you require? Whether you’re setting up a business or home VOIP connection, there are going to be certain mandatory features you require. For example, for either service choice, you will want call waiting so that your callers do not get a busy signal if you are on the line when they try to call. You may want a second line added for overflow calls or dedicated incoming or outgoing calls such as a fax machine. How many voicemail boxes will you receive? Will you get the same number of email accounts? The only silly question in this case is the one that isn’t ask.
