Projector Bulb

No matter what kind of projector you have or light bulb you use, you will eventually have to replace the bulb. If the projector isn’t used very often the bulb can last for a long time since most bulbs have a lifespan of at least 1,000 hours. Other bulbs will last between 2,000 to 4,000 hours. DLP projector bulbs will even display when the bulb is no longer working.

When it comes to LCD projector bulbs their lifespan has a wide range. Metal halide bulbs can last thousands of hours with lifespans depending on the type of projector and bulb being used. Halogen bulbs have a significantly shorter lifespan at under one hundred hours. However, metal halide bulbs will lose brightness as time goes on while halogen bulbs will keep their brightness until the very end.

DLP projectors use either LED bulbs or a mercury projector arc. The replacements bulbs can be more expensive than LCD projector bulbs but they last up to five times longer. Some DLP light bulbs will last up to 20,000 hours making them worth the extra expense if you can afford it.

There are steps that can be taken to maximize the lifespan of the bulb in your projector. Like every electronic, being free of dust allows for things to work better and longer. Cleaning air filters will keep projectors from building up high amounts of damaging dust and dirt particles. Ventilation is also important for increasing the life of a bulb because heat can cause damage to the bulb.

Warranties are always a good idea when spending so much money. Some bulbs will come with manufacturer warranties, which will protect you from defective products. One year and three year warranties can also be purchased from certain suppliers. Bulbs that are made of quartz are more durable than glass bulbs when it comes to the pressure of high-quality light. Make sure the bulb you buy is meant for your projector otherwise you may cause damage to both the bulb and the projector.
